Overview
The Neuro-ophthalmology Fellowship Programme is a university-based, multidisciplinary
fellowship involving the departments/divisions of ophthalmology, neurology,
neurosurgery, and neuroradiology at the University of British Columbia.
There are presently two geographic full-time neuro-ophthalmologists involved
with the programme.
There are eight to nine neuro-ophthalmology clinics per week, divided
among St. Paul’s, Vancouver and University Hospitals. Approximately
70 patients per week are seen in consultation at these clinics. This is
the only neuro-ophthalmology programme in British Columbia and patients
are referred from the city and province, the western Canadian provinces,
and the northwestern Unites States.
Successful applicants to the fellowship programme will receive intensive
exposure and training in the management and study of neuro-ophthalmic
disease. They will see all referred patients and manage their conditions
under the supervision of the staff neuro-ophthalmologists. There will
be interaction with neurology, neurosurgery and ophthalmology residents
during these clinics. The fellows will gain experience in clinical neuro-ophthalmology
through six half-day sessions per week. There will be three half-days
available for research activities, and larger blocks may be arranged if
desired. Fellows will also be required to attend academic rounds.
The fellowship runs from July 1st through June 30th, and is generally
a nonfunded position. Occasionally, research grants, etc. can help supplement
funds. Shorter periods of study occasionally can be arranged.
